Petzl Stop Decender is a Self-braking descender which locks when the handle is released. Not typically used by climbers as free hanging abseils not that common but certainly the descender of choice for SRT in caving. The handle should be used as a stop – go control and the speed of the descent controlled with the handle, whilst the other hand holds the rope below the device. For those unfamiliar with the Petzl Stop you must avoid the natural instinct to grab the handle harder if you feel out of control…let go to Stop!
